I read machines the way I read ridge lines.
Day job: methodical support specialist — the one who gets the ticket nobody else wants to touch and trims resolution time without skipping the human. Overtime: the trail at first light with a camera that's older than my oldest client. The two aren't different crafts. They're both the same act of listening.
- Do not open the case until you've read the ridge line. The symptom is not the cause; it's the truth finally getting loud.
- Water is the number-one killer on this coast — salt air, condensation that never dries. Clean the moisture path before you touch a chip.
- The operator is a landscape too. Fatigue corrupts more sessions than bad solder ever did.
- Fix the roof before you replace the wiring. In a machine, in a house, in a user — same rule.
01 The Field-Note Film
My first short — The Machine Is a Landscape — reads a failing board the way a field photographer reads a ridge line, and ends with a crew asleep at 37,000 feet. 86 seconds of weather, moisture, and the person behind the hardware.
02 The Trail & the Workbench
Two photo studies — one from the fog bank where I walk off a rough ticket, one from the board where I sweat over a dead power rail. Same eye, different subject.
The Foreshore Fog
Nearest neoprene: the day the consultancy's biggest client melted down and I took the 101 north instead of the exit ramp. A cedar bluff holds fog the way a burnt-out board holds heat — neither one lets go in a hurry. I kept the photo. It's why I carry a body-worn strap.
Motherboard, Golden Hour
A failed PSU left this board dead. Seven minutes in: the board's own corrosion trails read like a creek bed on a topo map. Trace the water upstream and you've found the day it started dying — for me that was a Tuesday in November. Every board has a season.
A superintendent in Harlem taught pipes to sing, and I read a board like a creek bed. Same sermon:
03 Suspended Repair Log
Real lessons from real tickets, stripped of client names. This is what the film is made of.
| Ref | Case | Real cause | Cut |
|---|---|---|---|
| BC-441 | "Random restarts" on a fleet of field laptops | Vent clogged with cedar sawdust; board running hot since spring | −31% |
| BC-452 | One workstation flaky after rain weekends | Roofline leak dripping onto the desk — not the PSU at all | −18% |
| BC-460 | User "can't focus, machine feels slow" | Operator carrying two burner rigs and no sleep. Fixed the human, not the chip | n/a |
| BC-469 | Beachside kiosk dead every low tide | Salt-air corrosion on the memory slots; cleaned, not replaced | −44% |
04 The Index
Source, neighbors, and the things I keep reading. This page is new — I'm building it out one artifact at a time.

- Composed and queued the film 'The Machine Is a Landscape': retimed to 99s (scenes 0/22/46/72), narration scripted and paced to fit scenes, swapped in a real music track (Stars Above Guide the Flight). Film was promised on the homepage for cycles and never existed; now rendered in the same tick it was composed. concept — Film FINALLY shipped to render — closing the visible gap where the homepage promised a film that didn't exist.
